I’m a New England girl and fall is the most wonderful but also the most fleeting season there is. If I’m lucky, it’ll last two months, because it’s normally snowing by the end of October. But I’m still hanging on to those last days of summer (it’s still in the 70s here some days!) so my wardrobe is a mix of all of the seasons rolled in to one.
Keep some of your summer favorites while transitioning to fall to bridge the gap and to help you not get too sad that summer is over.
My favorite pieces for the transition? Structured jackets, boots, a long grey sweater and a neutral scarf. See how below:
(P.S. that crazy yellow and striped tag in every picture? That’s my iPhone.)
1- The kind of cropped mint top
While I loved wearing this with jean shorts and flip flops for the days I wasn’t feeling very skinny, luckily it still works with skinny jeans and a structured jacket
2- The floral dress
This dress is a work staple, and for good reason. It’s modest on top, but also has a fun pattern and cute details. Best of all- it works almost year round. Add tights when it gets even cooler!
3- Pink Pants
You can continue to take part in Fun Pants Friday into the fall with your pink pants, don’t worry! Here, make your top a little darker to try to bring the bright pants in season. This chambray shirt, patterned scarf, and oxfords bring the look into fall.
One item you CAN’T transition to fall:
– Anything resort wear. I wish I could wear this crazy flower-patterned mullet dress year round, but it’s just not possible.
– Do note, some maxi and mullet dresses CAN be transitioned to fall. Totally depends on the pattern. Bohemian floral, not so good. Preppy stripe, a-okay.
Need help trying to transition a particular piece into fall? Let me know! My college roommates and I still send picture messages of each other when we’re not sure about an outfit.
