Part of what I hated about being unemployed was that if I ever met people, the first thing they would ask was whether or not I had a job. I was embarrassed to have to say I had just graduated and was looking for work still (which there is nothing to be ashamed of!).
Now I find that all I talk about is work.
I understand the thing I do eight hours of each day is work, and that it is a large part of my life and certainly one of my greatest passions. But when, if ever, is it okay for work to become who you are?
I am a social media specialist, sure. But I’m also a daughter and friend, with interests and hobbies well beyond what I do for work.
When we meet people, do we ask them what they do because we really think it will tell us a lot about them? Or because it’s the safe thing to do?
