I’m a very optimistic person by nature. I smile a lot, own many Life Is Good t-shirts, and am only guaranteed to be in a bad mood if I’m hungry.
I have such a cheery disposition, that one year my Aunt bought me a shirt that says “You can’t rain on my parade,” for Christmas.
My parade is just that fun.
I find at work, and in most stressful situations, people get overwhelmed by the bad over the good. They’re working on what they have to do, trying to get the pieces to all come together, but not really getting the big picture. Although you should get work done at work, you should also get to know the people you work with. Talk to the girl in Accounts about her wedding. Walk to the bus with one of the Search guys you don’t know very well.
A company culture, and a company’s success, is not only built upon the hard work and talent of an organization, but the way the organization comes together as a team.
So form relationships. Celebrate the small wins. Be human.
And be nice to people. They deserve it.
