At this point, about a month back, I was traveling around Europe with my family. I’ve been somehow so busy since I’ve been back, I haven’t even taken the chance to write about it!
I was able to travel to Paris and London with my family on I think my first week-long vacation in some time. We hadn’t been on a touristy vacation in some time (we like the beach! We can’t help it) so it was a lot different than what we were used to.
The trip began for me in Boston, where my sister and I were flying out together. My parents went over a few days early to get a little used to the jetlag, but Lisa and I were going to just fly by the seat of our pants (who are we kidding haha we didn’t have the vacation time left to take!). We had a few glasses of wine at the airport while my sister tried to finish doing work. I swear, she was doing work up until 6 minutes before we boarded the flight (and it even got delayed).
On the plane, Lisa and I got our first taste of being in a place where we didn’t know the language. Most of the people on our flight clearly chose French as their first language, including the stewardesses. We already felt awkward, because we were nervous about ordering a glass of wine. Luckily, everyone knows the word wine, and we soon realized that everyone spoke French AND English on the plane. Phew.
The Highlights of the Paris leg of the trip:
Seeing Meg!
The original reason for the trip was to see my cousin Meg. She has been studying in France for the semester and came up to Paris to spend the first weekend with us. It was cool to see her speaking French and totally adapting to another place. Even though she turns 21 in a few months- she’s still always my younger cousin!
Seeing the Eiffel Tower Lit Up
Not sure if it was cause I was delirious because we did this on the first night, but seeing the Eiffel Tower glitter at night is truly breathtaking. It GLITTERS!
The Versailles Kitty
My sister would kill me if I didn’t mention that we saw a kitty walking around in Versailles. Of course it wasn’t all of the beautiful artwork and decoration that really got us excited, but the KITTY outside. Meow.
Napoleon’s Quarters at the Louvre
Table for 46? Not a problem at Napoleon’s house. It was really cool to walk through the beautiful, HUGE apartments. I wish I counted how many chandeliers there were but I’m not sure that I could have.
The Notre Dame
I can’t help but marvel at stained-glass windows, especially ones of this magnitude. Those are little pieces of glass all lined up and put together- not painted on once they are up there!
Those were just a few of the highlights from Paris- stay tuned for more from London!
Love this recap, Mito. I’ll never forget seeing the Eiffel Tower lit up at night. It truly is magical, no matter how many photos or videos you’ve seen. I am desperate to go back again soon!
