First Day of Work!

So today is the first day of my new internship and I’m really excited, and a little nervous.  I’ve been waiting for this for so long that it doesn’t feel like it’s actually here!

A few tips for your first day of work:

  • Know where you’re going. Are you driving? Are you taking public transportation? Who are you asking for when you come in? What should you bring? And most importantly- what time should you be there? All these answers people assume they know but might forget. Review all of the materials given to you so far and make sure you know the answers to these questions. A lot of times, the company will need you to bring some sort of ID and a voided check if you want to do direct deposit.
  • What are you wearing? Obviously a big question on my mind- because I want to fit in, but I also want to look professional. The workplace I’m joining has a casual atmosphere- you can wear jeans- but they ask that you are smart about what you wear. So, I’m thinking for the first day a cute skirt, flats, top and fun jacket just in case its cold, so I’m cute, comfortable, and fit in!
  • What should you do about lunch? Now you may call me crazy for this, but it happened to my sister! If you pack a lunch assuming no one is taking you out to lunch (which you should assume) then you bring a nice a big lunch to the office. BUT what if they forget to show you the kitchen/fridge on the tour of the office because they are expecting to bring you out to lunch? Then, you’ll have a delicious ham and cheese sandwich and soda which gets really warm by lunch, and REALLY warm by the end of the day so you’ll have to throw it out. Thus, the ultimate solution, do your best to bring a refridgeration-free lunch! My choices are a peanut butter sandwich, chips, grapes & maybe a cookie.
  • Be yourself! Besides this little list of things, try not to worry too much about what to do. You were hired because they saw something in YOU so be yourself and have fun!

So sorry tweeps if you’re missing me today- but I have big things to do! 🙂
