Yesterday I went to my very first event as an alumnus, the incoming Class of 2015 New Student Reception at a home outside of Boston of one of the alumni. Coming in alone was a little intimidating, but it was soon evident that I was the only recent alumni and would be welcomed into conversations and asked many questions.
A family who’s daughter was going in to the business program approached me first, and they had some great questions to ask me about specific programs and general advice. Since I had volunteered in the Admissions Office the last four years, many of the questions and answers are familiar to me, and also pretty fun. I had to catch myself though, I was always used to selling Villanova, but everyone I talked to was already convinced it’s great.
It’s funny to look back at where I was going into freshman year, how awkward those first meetings are and how nervous you are to make real friends. Little did I know I would find the friends of a lifetime, and there would be no worry soon after a few weeks of starting school.
I have a lot to be thankful for in the network of Villanova and am happy to continue to give back to the community and help those at college right now. I’m hoping these events continue, so I can continue to connect with those from the area that went to ‘Nova.
