Best Picnic Foods

In prep for the holiday weekend, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite summertime recipes that we bring to our annual July 4th celebrations. All easy to do, and delicious cold from the cooler. 🙂

Honey-Roasted Chex Mix

Click above to bring yourself over to the Chex Mix recipe site. Easy to mix up and pop in the oven to bake in the flavor. Warning: very addicting! You may eat the whole batch in one sitting. Do note, they have TONS of other recipes to try there so experiment and let me know which ones you love!

Moira’s Wings

A family favorite hot from the oven AND cold from the cooler, perfectly flavored wings for those of us who like taste, but not spice.

  • 2- 3 packages of wings (separated into pieces is WAY easier than trying to separate yourself)
  • 2 cups of Soy sauce
  • 1.5 cups of vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp of ginger

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour while basting every 20 minutes. Then remove marinade (best done by putting the wings through a collander) and bake for another hour without marinade to crisp the edges.

Auntie Juliet’s Sangria

Put a bottle of white wine in a pitcher and squeeze in the juices of at least 3 oranges, a lemon and a lime. Do your best to leave out the seeds, but be sure to add the rinds into the mixture. Add 2/3 a cup of sugar and let it sit overnight to take in all the juices. When ready to serve, add a 1/2 liter of club soda (or ginger ale for a sweeter tooth!) and enjoy! It really is that easy.

Feel free to add other fruits like kiwis, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries or peaches, or even a shot or two of gin, brandy or rum to kick it up a notch.

Enjoy your holiday weekend!
