As part of Wharton Women‘s Annual Business Conference, Lori Greeley, CEO of Victoria’s Secret, came to speak to young women business students about her journey to become CEO and what we could do to continue to transform as leaders. She was easy to relate to and an enjoyable speaker. Some of my favorite tips:
How to have Success:
- Willingness to go on a journey. Don’t feel like you have to be in a rigid career path to get to where you want to go. Diverse experiences will help you to make better decisions in the long run.
- Do what you love. You should be excited about going to work and doing what you do for a living. As Lori also stated, be weary of those who hate Mondays and love Fridays: they should be doing something else for a living.
- Focus on doing your best and don’t worry about who gets credit. Your competition is outside of your company, not inside your company, so collaborations and team innovation should be part of the every day culture.
- Listen. You need to perpetually learn from others.. you will never know everything!
- Be self aware. This was probably my favorite tip. Do you like working with grumpy people? No. So don’t be grumpy! Do your best not to go into meetings upset or angry, or this will reflect on the team and throughout the company. You need to be aware of your attitude and demeanor if you expect others to do the same.
Again, thanks to the lovely Wharton Women for hosting this event, & especially Lori Greeley for the goodies from VS! Wednesday’s post will be my takeaways from another great speaker- Denise Morrison of Campbell’s.
From today’s post, what is your favorite tip from Lori?
Sounds like it was a event. I think the advice is spot on!
